New lift to Bulgaria's Mechi Chal starts functioning in mid-December
A helicopter completes the installation of the new lift in Chepelare
A modern, four person chairlift, will start functioning in Chepelare by mid-December, Horemag reported. The new facility will replace an older one that has been functioning for the past 30 years.
The lift will renew the now existing old and slow cable car, which is almost 30 years old.
The modern high speed quad will start operating by mid December.
The new lift has a capacity for 2000 persons per hour and tourists from Chepelare will be able to reach “Mechi Chal” peak for just 9 minutes. A French company has supplied the needed lift parts.
Chepelare will also benefit from a new artificial snow system. It will start functioning this season. The machine's capacity is to cover all tracks in 100 hours, if temperatures are below -3 degrees Celsius. A public-private company invested in the facilities and its overall investment is to reach 50 million euro.
Apart from new facilities, the investors will spend on snow processing machines, track marking following European standards and the setting up of a snowboard park. A second lift and a sports center Chepelare will be created from 2009 to 2011.
