The new Mechi Chal resort will serve to turn the small mountain town in an international center for winters sports and mountain tourism.
Its name Mechi Chal (peak Mechi Chal) comes from the name of the Chala area, where the complex will be located.

The construction of the new complex will take place in three phases over the next five years. For the first time in Bulgaria a special tourists’ access system will be used that is developed by the Austrian company Access. The lift line is being constructed by the French company Pomagalski. The planned investments till the end of the year are for EUR 8 million as more than EUR 1 million of them are for the artificial snow system.
The second stage will be realized in the period 2009-2011. It includes construction of sports center near the town of Chepelare and a second lift with more than 3 km length connecting the sports facilities with the Mechi Chal peak.
During the third phase of the project the building of sports and entertainment summer facilities in the sports center on the Mechi Chal peak as well as by the Chaia River will continue. Facilities will be build by the middle station around the biathlon track. The project and building of a modern small vacation village near the town is also planned.
